With its unique rustic appearance, the Basque burnt cheesecake originates from Spain. Cooked at high heat, the exterior of the cake is intentionally burnt to form a crust that perfectly compliments the sweet and creamy centre. Trust us, once you go Basque, you’ll never go back, you will be amazed by the melt-in-your-mouth texture.

Totally! That soft centre is exactly how Basque cheesecakes are meant to be — creamy, custardy, and a little gooey. They’re fully baked, just not set firm like a classic cheesecake. And don’t worry — we only use pasteurised ingredients, including eggs, so they’re perfectly safe to eat (and pregnancy-friendly too).

We specialise in Basque cheesecakes — rich, creamy, and available in a variety of flavours. In store, we also serve coffee and other drinks to go with your cake.

We offer a rotating selection of at least 6 to 8 flavours by the slice each day, with Original always on the menu. Everything is baked fresh in small batches, so some flavours may sell out quickly. There’s no fixed schedule for which flavours appear, so check our Instagram story each morning to see what’s available that day!

All our cheesecakes are vegetarian, gluten-free by ingredients and made with pasteurised ingredients. However, our kitchen handles common allergens, including dairy, eggs, soy, tree nuts and sesame. Although we clean thoroughly between preparing each flavour and take care to minimise cross-contamination, we cannot guarantee the complete absence of allergens.

While our cakes are gluten-free by ingredients, they are prepared in a shared kitchen, so there is a risk of gluten cross-contamination.

Our cheesecakes are Halal-friendly by ingredients, except for the Tiramisu and Baileys flavours, which contain alcohol.

Our cheesecake slices are best enjoyed within one day for maximum freshness, while whole (uncut) cakes can be stored in the fridge for up to three days. Once a cake is cut, be sure to cover it properly to prevent it from drying out or absorbing any unwanted odours from the fridge. For food safety, please don’t leave cheesecakes at room temperature for more than two hours.

If you’ll be carrying your cake for more than two hours — especially in hot weather or if your cake has cream toppings — we highly recommend using a cooler bag. You’re welcome to bring your own, or you can purchase one from our store to help keep your cake fresh and safe on the way home.

We only offer our Basque cheesecakes in two sizes: 5” and 8”. Unfortunately, we’re unable to make custom sizes.

Only whole cakes are available for pre-order and must be placed through our website.

Slice flavours rotate daily in-store, so if you're after a specific flavour, we recommend pre-ordering a whole cake in advance.

In-store, everything is first come, first served.

Pre orders require at least three days’ notice and can be placed up to one month in advance. Pre ordering allows you to choose any flavour — especially cakes with toppings, which must be pre ordered as we make everything fresh.

Pre order slots are limited. If you’re unable to select a date at checkout, it means that day is fully booked.

If you’ve missed the cut off, you’re always welcome to visit the store to see what whole cakes are available for walk-ins. We always have extra whole cakes in store from 10am, until sold out.

If a date is unclickable at checkout, it means that day is fully booked or the three day notice cut off has passed.

We're currently a single-location store based in Melbourne — and the only Betterburnt store! All our cheesecakes are freshly baked in-house right here in Hawthorn.

We don’t offer wholesale at the moment, as we have a small kitchen and our production capacity is fully dedicated to serving our own customers.
